The Best Brain Dump Apps for iPhone in 2026 (Honest Picks)
A good brain dump app has one job: let you empty your head fast, then help you figure out what to do with the pile. Some apps are brilliant at the first half. A few try to do both. Plenty of people do just fine with what’s already on their phone.
Full disclosure before we start: we make Brain Dump by ProjectAdulting, so it’s first on this list. We’ve tried to describe every other app fairly, using what their own websites and App Store listings say (checked October 2026). Where another app is a better fit for you, we’ll say so.
What makes a brain dump app good?
Before the list, here’s what we looked for:
- Zero-friction capture. Can you start typing (or talking) in seconds, without picking a folder first?
- Help with the pile. Does it do anything with your dump afterward: sort it, prioritize it, break it down?
- A clear next step. Does it help you actually start, or just store things?
- Fair pricing. Is it clear what’s free and what’s paid?
1. Brain Dump by ProjectAdulting
Best for: turning a messy pile of life admin into one clear next move.
Brain Dump is built for the moment when everything (bills, errands, chores, deadlines, calls, paperwork, money stress) is competing for your attention at once. You unload it in rough notes or half-sentences, no organizing required, and the app helps organize what you entered.
Where it differs from a pure capture app is what happens next:
- One next move: instead of handing you back a giant list, it helps you find the first useful action.
- Smaller steps: stressful tasks get broken down into more manageable pieces.
- Adulting Inbox: tasks, notes, routines, reminders, and follow-ups live together.
- AI coach: talk through a problem or build a plan, judgment-free.
- Life skills: short lessons on money, career, home, health, routines, and relationships.
- Daily momentum: small wins and progress tracking, without a guilt streak.
Pricing: free to download. You can try the brain dump and complete your first task during onboarding before deciding on Pro (monthly or annual subscription). There’s no free trial of Pro.
Honest limitations: iPhone only (iOS 16.4+). If you want a long-form notes archive or a Mac app, look at the next pick.
2. BrainDump (getbraindump.com)
Best for: pure, fast note capture across Apple devices.
Not to be confused with us (naming things is hard). BrainDump is a free, zero-friction note-taking app for iPhone, iPad, Mac, and Apple Vision Pro, plus a Windows version and a web app. You open it and start typing immediately, with no account needed. Notes sync through iCloud, and you get folders, tags, search, and offline use on the free plan. An optional paid Focus plan adds unlimited AI tools, like asking your notes questions (“what did I write about the launch plan?”).
Pricing: free Base plan; optional Focus subscription.
Honest take: it’s excellent if your dumps are mostly ideas and notes you want to keep and search. It’s more of a notes app than a “tell me what to do next” app, and there’s no native Android app (the web app covers it).
3. Ordo
Best for: automatic sorting into Now, Next, and Someday.
Ordo lets you type or speak a mixed brain dump of tasks, ideas, and reminders, then separates the thoughts and sorts them by when they matter: Now, Next, or Someday. You can capture from the share sheet, Siri, or a widget, and you can edit the results. Saying “remind me” creates a notification, and “wake me up” creates a real alarm on iOS 26 and up.
Honest take: a smart pick if time-based sorting is what you’re after. It’s focused on sorting rather than breaking big tasks into steps.
4. Jot – Instant Brain Dump
Best for: quick voice and text capture with Apple Watch support.
Jot is a free app (with in-app purchases) for iPhone, iPad, Mac, and Apple Watch. Its listing highlights instant capture, hands-free voice notes, grouping thoughts into categories when you’re ready, sub-notes for breaking projects into pieces, and pulling content out of saved links.
Honest take: great if speed and your wrist are the priority. Organization is mostly up to you.
5. Todoist (with Ramble)
Best for: people who already run their life in Todoist.
Todoist’s free Beginner plan now includes Ramble, a voice feature that turns what you say into tasks, with limited sessions on the free tier and unlimited on Pro. You also get Smart Quick Add, reminders, and list and board layouts, with five personal projects on the free plan.
Honest take: if your tasks already live in Todoist, don’t switch apps for a brain dump feature. Use Ramble. If Todoist’s long lists are what overwhelm you in the first place, this won’t fix that.
6. Apple Notes (+ Voice Memos)
Best for: free, already installed, zero learning curve.
Honestly? For a lot of people, a single Apple Note called “DUMP” is enough. It’s fast, it syncs, it’s searchable, and it costs nothing.
Honest take: it does nothing with your dump. No sorting, no next step, no breaking things down. If you’re good at that part yourself, you might not need anything else.
7. Apple Reminders
Best for: dumps that are mostly simple to-dos.
Reminders is surprisingly capable these days, with lists, due dates, locations, and grocery-list sorting. Typing a quick brain dump of tasks straight into it works well.
Honest take: it’s great for tasks and less great for the messy, half-sentence worries that make up a real brain dump.

How to choose
Ask yourself one question: what happens after I dump?
- “I just need to get it out and keep it”: BrainDump (getbraindump) or Apple Notes.
- “I need it sorted by when”: Ordo.
- “My tasks already live in Todoist”: Todoist Ramble.
- “I look at the pile and freeze”: that’s the exact problem Brain Dump by ProjectAdulting is designed for. It points you at one next move and makes the big things smaller.
A note on AI
Several apps on this list use AI to organize your dump. That’s genuinely useful, but check each app’s privacy policy for how your text is handled, especially if your dumps include health or money details. (Ours is linked in the footer.)
The bottom line
The best brain dump app is the one you’ll actually open when your head is full. If capture is your bottleneck, pick the fastest notes app you like. If starting is your bottleneck, pick one that hands you a next step.
